• This Year's Six Nations Schedule

    With communications technology getting better and better and after several years of steady progress, it looks like we're back to square one when it comes to watching live first class rugby in The Bahamas.

Whereas we'll all agree that Setanta Sport has been a bit of God-send, it seems, fromwhat I'm hearing that greed has got the better of them this year and the cost of showing live games has soared to the point whereby its out of the range of any bar/club in The Bahamas.

I'm not saying how much they want (you wouldn't believe me anyway), but suffice to say your first-born son is worth a couple of bucks less than they're asking.

It seems that we may be able to catch 'same-day' coverage, which in itself isn't a bad thing, and we may all be able to watch the games together after matches finish at Winton/Freeport - but is it really possible to avoid finding out the scores…..

Anyway, here's the schedule:

2007 Six Nations Schedule

Italy start off the 2007 season by hosting defending champions France at Stadio Flaminio.

Irish stadium Croke Park will host Ireland’s games with France (February 11) and England (February 24), while Lansdowne Road is being renovated.

There will be two “Super Saturdays”, that is three games played on a Saturday, on 24 Feburary and 17 March.

All times are GMT with local time in brackets when played in France or Italy.

Saturday 3 February:

* Italy v France - 13:30 (14:30 local), Stadio Flaminio
* England v Scotland - 16:00, Twickenham

Sunday 4 February

* Wales v Ireland - 15:00, Millennium Stadium

Saturday 10 February

* England v Italy - 13:30, Twickenham
* Scotland v Wales - 15:30, Murrayfield

Sunday 11 February

* Ireland v France - 15:00, Croke Park, Dublin

Saturday 24 February

* Scotland v Italy - 15:00, Murrayfield
* Ireland v England - 17:30, Croke Park, Dublin
* France v Wales - 20:00 (21:00 local), Stade de France

Saturday 10 March

* Scotland v Ireland - 13:30, Murrayfield
* Italy v Wales - 15:30 (16:30 local), Stadio Flaminio

Sunday 11 March
[…]

  • England appoint Ashton, Wales want Sir Clive…

    Brian Ashton was appointed England's rugby coach on Wednesday, taking over from Andy Robinson.

The 60-year-old Ashton will take over his coaching duties with immediate effect, the English Rugby Football Union (RFU) said in a statement.
His first game in charge will be the Six Nations opener against Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday February 3.

"It's a massive privilege and honour to be asked to do the job," Ashton said.
"I recognise the challenges ahead of us and along with the other Coaches team my focus now is to prepare the England team to play Scotland."

Ashton was appointed England's attack coach in May and he will continue to work with forwards coach John Wells and defence coach Mike Ford the RFU statement said.
He would then have nine further games before England launch their World Cup defence against the United States in Lens on September 8, with France (three times), Wales (twice), South Africa (twice), Ireland and Italy all on the agenda.

<!–more–>

Wales are eager to sign up England's World Cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward as their director of elite performance, press reports said on Tuesday.

Woodward had been in the running for a similar post with England earlier this year but the English Rugby Football Union opted instead for Newcastle's Rob Andrew.

After leading England to World Cup glory in Australia in 2003, Woodward stood down and recently he has been employed as the British Olympic Association's performance director.

But WRU chief executive Roger Lewis told the Guardian:

"We will be conducting a global search to make sure we make the right appointment.
"We want someone who has experience of working at the elite level of sport; Sir Clive has many of the skills we are looking for and he is filling the same role for the British Olympic Association."

Source: IOL, South Africa

  • Shane Williams - Genius!

    Anybody who says that Shane Williams isn't the most exciting player in world rugby obviously isn't (erm…) Welsh.

This photo essay doesn't do him justice, but the music's great (Sterephonics - my mate used to drum for them!)

<!–more–>

And then there's Gavin Henson, could have been a God in Wales, but his ego got in the way. This song's a bit harsh, but it's funny.

Hero to 0 at 90mph

Some choice lyrics:

You make your money chasing the egg
But you're only a spiky-haired d*ckhead

You think its funny trying to make me drink p*ss
Well this is one kick that you're gonna miss

You wanna be a rugby star
F*cking orange pr*ck that's what you are

Then there's this one:

Why does everyone hate Gavin Henson?

But he does have a sensitive side:

Welsh singer CHARLOTTE CHURCH has been given a truly unforgettable early birthday present - a baby elephant.
Church's rugby star boyfriend GAVIN HENSON couldn't help noticing her fondness for the 18-month-old beast during a safari holiday in South Africa, and he decided to plan a secret adoption.

A source says, "Charlotte turns 20 in a couple of weeks and Gavin thought it would be great to surprise her by adopting NABOO.
"Charlotte loves elephants as they never forget things which she thinks is sweet.
"She was made up when Gavin told her what he'd done."

• The Rush is on for World Cup Tickets

    Cup fever starts with ticket frenzy

TWO of Wales' Rugby World Cup matches have already sold out - 10 months before kick-off.
An astonishing 170,000 tickets for the tournament were snapped up in just eight hours when they went on sale on Thursday.

Tickets for two of Wales' group matches next September - against Fiji and Canada at the 38,000-capacity Stade la Beaujoire in the city of Nantes - have already gone.

The Pool B clash with Australia at the 74,000 Millennium Stadium is one of the tournament's most sought-after matches. That too is nearly sold out, with only a few of the more expensive tickets left.

Wales will play two of their group games in Cardiff, with Japan likely to be the other visitor to the capital, and two in Nantes on the French west coast.

<!–more–>

Should Wales qualify for the quarter-finals, they will play their last-eight game in Marseilles in the south of France.

The fixture list has been arranged so that the two teams from Wales' pool will both play quarter-finals in the city on the same weekend, with either England or South Africa their likely opponents.

In total, 550,000 tickets went on sale last week as part of the third phase of sales.

Wales coach Gareth Jenkins said:

"It shows what we are. We are a rugby nation that oozes passion. There's not a person in Wales that doesn't get behind this national team when it plays."

Source: Laura Kemp for Wales on Sunday
